The NETFA Forum: Foundations for Change was held at Woodward Conference Centre, Melbourne on the 5th February 2016. This report outlines the discussions held throughout the day from the panel sessions to the end of the day workshop where participants were convened into small groups to discuss several issues related to FGM/C and provide recommendations.

Listening to North Yarra Communities about Female Genital Cutting

This report summarises findings from a community-based research project conducted into the impact of FGM/C on diverse inner Melbourne communities conducted in a partnership of the University of Melbourne, the Royal Women’s Hospital, and North Yarra Community Health (now known as cohealth). The project involved members of the Eritrean, Hararian, Oromo, Somali and Sudanese communities of Carlton, Collingwood, Fitzroy, Flemington, North Melbourne and beyond.

Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting in regional Victoria: Research to Practice

University of Melbourne
This report is concerned in enhancing support for girls and women who have health needs associated with female genital cutting and who are living in regional Victoria by generating and building evidence. Specifically, the project engaged with community members and service providers in Ballarat, Geelong, Latrobe Valley and Shepparton conducting interviews and focus group discussions with 51 community members and 14 service providers across regional Victoria.

Supporting Young Women who have experienced Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting (FGM/C)

This report explores the experiences of young women (18/25 years old) from FGM/C communities to determine ways to develop, improve and deliver support services to that are culturally and age appropriate, and increase understanding of FGM/C and its consequences.
